All Saints Church , Rothbury, the fragment of the Saxon Cross of Rothbury, which now serves as pedestal to the font, indicates that a Christian church has stood on this site for nearly 1200 years. The carving of the Ascension of our Lord, on its north side, is said to be the oldest of its kind in Britain, circa 800AD. The chancel of the present church is 13thC but the nave and tower were rebuilt in 1850. The pulpit, screen and other fine wood carvings were gifts of the Lords Armstrong of Cragside.
